9/12/2013 - GSF/D3D and Panasonic Announce Strategic Alliance

EVANSTON, IL—Giant Screen Films and D3D Cinema have joined forces with Panasonic Systems Communications Company of North America in an effort to educate and inspire audiences around the world. Leveraging the power of GSF’s compelling films, D3D’s cinema design and production expertise, and Panasonic’s worldwide innovations, this new collaboration will deliver unparalleled content and technology solutions for museums, science centers, and learning institutions.

An essential component of the companies’ partnership is Panasonic’s sponsorship of GSF’s 2013 large-format blockbuster, Titans of the Ice Age. Featuring dazzling computer imagery and dramatic footage of some of the planet’s most beautiful landscapes, Titans brings the past to life in ultra-high resolution on the world’s largest screens.

Panasonic’s sponsorship of the film provides a natural avenue for the companies to partner with exhibiting institutions and introduce a new endeavor, the Panasonic Museum Innovation Initiative. Developed in conjunction with GSF/D3D, this campaign seeks to explore the evolving role of technology in museums and science centers, and to harness Panasonic’s resources and expertise to support the educational community and its mission. Titans exhibitors worldwide will have the opportunity to work with GSF and Panasonic to develop activities in association with the film, including marketing campaigns, special events, and outreach to educators. In addition to these collaborations, a select group of leaders from museums and cultural institutions will participate in special “innovation forums” to help inform the initiative.

“We are thrilled to partner with Panasonic in our ongoing efforts to strengthen the network of museum theaters with a pipeline of dynamic content and cutting-edge technology,” said Don Kempf, president and founder of GSF and D3D. “Panasonic’s leadership perfectly underscores Titans’ message that humanity can use its power to innovate to address our greatest global challenges. The company’s creativity and commitment to the museum industry are a tremendous asset to GSF and D3D,” he said.

“We’re delighted to be associated with Titans of the Ice Age,” said Ron Martin, vice president of operations at Panasonic’s Hollywood Lab. “The film delivers a powerful message in an amazing medium, and even better, museums and science centers can extend that impact through exhibits, programs and more. Panasonic looks forward to exploring the unique opportunities to support these activities with our own solutions and expertise that would be right at home in the museum environment,” he said.

“Panasonic is moving toward an emphasis on business to business solutions built around our expertise in digital media and green solutions.  A strategic relationship like this one with Giant Screen Films allows us to bring our core values to the large format film industry.” Martin added, “With the coming 4k revolution in production and distribution, this relationship will leverage our commitment to technology innovation and environmental responsibility in a very powerful way.”

Titans of the Ice Age released in January 2013 to markets worldwide. Lauded for its imagery and high quality educational content, Titans is on pace to rank among GSF’s top box office performers of all time. The film was recently selected as a finalist in the Best Theatrical Program category at the 2013 Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Competition, widely hailed as the nature film equivalent to the Oscars®.
